Week 2: Alissa
Convention, Conference, Festival, Fair and Exposition Research.
Definitions
Convention: a large meeting of members of a political party, particular profession or group.
Conference: a formal meeting of people with a shared interest, typically one that takes place over several days.
Festival: a day or period of celebration.
Fair: a gathering of stalls and amusements for public entertainment.
Exposition: a large public exhibition of art or trade goods.
Trade Show/Fair: an exhibition at which businesses in a particular industry promote their products and services.
Conventions and Conferences seem to be a meeting of people with a shared interested in or connected to a profession, hobby or interest. Although conferences seem more serious in nature and generally over several days. Some strange examples include Lego,Taxidermy, and UFOs.
Festivals and Fairs are more like a gathering of stalls, activities and performances for enjoyment. While both are for amusement and entertainment, Festivals are also more centered around celebration. Some more interesting examples include Scare-fest, and Twins Day.
Expos and trade shows are slightly different. They both are generally associated with more of a display and demonstrate setting. Expos are generally more display and exhibit while Trade shows are slightly more of a commercial buy-sell situation. Some Weird examples include a Witchcraft Expo, and World Toilet Summit & Expo.
