Week 3: Alissa
Organisational System Research
- Hierarchy
- Flatter
- Flat
- Flatarchy
- Holacratic
Hierarchy
- People at the top have more power and more information.
- Communication generally flows downwards and is very slow.
- Collaboration is more difficult.
- Generally considered a less enjoyable system to be a part of (especially at the bottom)
Flatter
- Has fewer levels of power.
- Communication can flow in both directions.
- More focused on communication and collaboration.
- Still has structure but a more flexible attitude.
- Generally a more even and enjoyable system to be a part of at the lower levels.
Flat
- Everyone is equal.
- There is no superiority, managers, or executives.
- There could be no job titles, designated working groups or even tasks to complete.
- Usually works best with small to medium sized companies rather than large ones.
- Some people can love this lack of structure, while other can find it very unpleasant.
Fatarchy
- A mixture of hierarchy and flat organisation.
- Considered very dynamic and adaptable, without a strict structure.
- Works for large and small companies.
- Flexibility to create smaller structural groups when needed.
- Good for product and service development and innovation programs.
- Belief that a focus on innovation is very beneficial for the future of enployment.
Halocratic
- More appropriate for small to medium organisations.
- Rather severe or extreme structure.
- Very new structural concept.
- not good for very large groups.
We like the idea of all collective members being part of a poll/voting system for all decision making.
We would choose a flatter organisational structure where one member of each group makes up a "council" group that would be tasked with narrowing down potential options to a small range that can be voted on by the whole collective.
The group representative's role would be to contribute and campaign for their groups ideas and need on behalf of their group and also relay information back to their group.

My contribution
- Researched different organisational models
- Made google slide on behalf of the group for our group's chosen organisational model (Flatarchy)
- But, we suggest having a supplementary group made of one member from each group
- These members would be able to campaign for their group’s ideas.
- Other purposes for this group would be to make sure each group knows what other groups are doing and assign tasks to each group.
- Also to communicate with other collectives when necessary.
