Week 9: Alissa

Impossible things expo (REM)

Being a critic

The overall theme was very cohesive through all stalls with the counting sheep and falling asleep group at the beginning and the rebirth, waking up group at the end. The dark atmosphere throughout and the cohesive all black collective uniform were a great idea. I don't know if it was intentional, but I felt like the calm dream feeling of the first offering immediately became dark and nightmarish. I possibly wish there had been more nice dreams before it all became scary and twisted. But being continually reminded of the safe word was very reassuring and it was great to know that it was okay if you started to feel too scared and wanted to "wake up".

There were quite a few non-physical exchanges or offerings such as the videos in the tent group and the tactile maze group. But also many physical exchanges like lollies and post card. Sometimes the lollies felt a little unnecessary because I felt like I received a lot of good emotional or mental offerings. For example, the tactile boxes over your head group. I did not receive anything physical after completing their offering, but I think it maybe left one of the largest lasting non-physical impressions on my. It was creepy and relieving to be out of one box, but also suspenseful and intriguing what would be in the next one.

One stall I didn't particularly enjoy was the quiz to get into the tent. I failed the quiz on the first attempt and was the only member of my group not allowed to enter. I felt very excluded and annoyed. However, this same stall was also one that I found particularly memorable also for its team collaboration (after I did the quiz again and was allowed in). As you moved through the offering you were guided the whole time by a member of their team and  handed off from one member to the next. Our offering is rather similar to this one in the way that your answers determine your outcome. The main things I learnt from this group that I want to apply to our expo next week, were that I do not want any visitor to our stall to feel unequal or left out. I also want them to feel guided and safe the whole time.
