Week 11 - EXPERIENCES OF THE ABANDONED: Participants

The second expo we went to was team Escapism: Experiences of the Abandoned

I really enjoyed this expo. It was very clever how their over all theme was abandoned things, as a lot of the stalls were based on thing we have abandoned from our childhood. This meant that we could relate to a lot of the content and were constantly saying "Aw I remember this!"  This made it so much more enjoyable and memorable.

The first stall was the Stock Photo booth, which was funny since I would have never thought of this before, and it was clever since they gave us our photos at the end, meaning we were reminded of the experience after the expo had finished.

The box hut was very clever as they had little trinkets and lollies inside the boxes that made us remember happy thoughts from our childhood.

I really liked the little blanket fort and I wanted to stay in there longer! It was a good idea to not let us bring our phones in, and I noticed that I automatically wanted to take photos inside, making me realise how much I rely on my phone now, compared to when I was little and I played in forts like this without phones at all.

The giant game of eye spy was so cool. Those books were my favourite when I was younger and making it into a life size experience was so surreal. It was a clever use of space having us standing on the walk way looking down on the objects.

Another stall I thought was interesting was the abandoned clothes. It stood out because it was different from most of the other stalls (memories from our childhood) and it really made me think. I like to learn about important worldly issues but I've never really thought of the fast fashion crisis. It was confronting with the loud monologue and eerie body parts of the mannequins. Afterwards I went home and researched more about fast fashion and what I can do to help.

I think the whole expo was planned out really well since they used the whole building. This meant that we took longer to go through so we got the most out of this experience we could have.
