Week 10 Host of Immaterial Labours- Phenomicon: Hilary

Our exhibition went well overall considering the minor setbacks we had the previous evening. We were the second group the participants encountered which was a good way to get them excited and intrigued to the rest of phenomicon. People really seemed to enjoy the outcome of their balloon, not knowing what they were going to get based off their decisions and what they could’ve seen previously or on the ground (eg confetti). Our team worked really well together during the time of the expo- with everyone having their assigned role getting the tasks done as more people came through.

We could’ve improved on organizing the plastic ponchos better as majority of them were getting ripped from peoples bags and it wasn’t a very clean aesthetic. We also could’ve communicated better with the teams surrounding our expo as our space was really tight and there were a lot of people standing around waiting for the next stall while participants couldn’t get out of ours because of this.
I believe our teams collaborative efforts were successful with everyone voicing their opinions in the planning stages and positively contributing to help us collectively progress with our ideas. We could’ve improved our teamwork by meeting up more regularly than the odd out of class time to solidify plans and set in stone decisions so some people are carrying the workload more than others.

Our prototyping and iteration process was really helpful for us to see our ideas and what needed to be thought about and resolved before we had to make it full scale. We could’ve improved thinking about the audience engagement as when we set up on the day, our balloons overhead were quite low, so we advanced to situating a chair underneath for the participant to sit which limited people going through one at a time

Communication within and across teams
As I briefly mentioned earlier, we could’ve communicated better with some of the teams regarding space and who has what space and the boundaries of peoples expos so we know exactly where everyone’s ended and starting so we can think about the flow of people entering and waiting around our stall and other stalls in our expo

It can be seen here the amount of confetti being trampled on around the expo which we also should've thought of as it is very hard to clean up.
I feel as though i learnt a lot during this course as it was my first group project and you can't expect everyone to put in the same amount of effort that you personally put in yourself. I can take this experience forward in my other course work with the learning of group planning and what worked best as a group and how to get things done without having to do it all yourself. Communication also played a big role in organising all of our collective, meeting deadlines so other teams could finish their tasks not just being a stand alone group to execute a brilliant expo.
